Lent - Day 12: The Toilet

Toilet-flushing accounts for about a third of household water usage. You probably flush away as much water in a day as you drink in a whole month. Think about some ways that you can save a bit of water in your day to day life.

Hey a good thing to do is to save dish water to water your plants with... :)

I read that a toilet flush uses the equivalent water to 6 big bottles of coke! Thats quite scary isn't it! I know its just the way we do things in this country but we're using clean water for the toilet... and people in poorer countries get ill off water contaminated with sewage, ironic!

I find the challenge is to just get on with it. I have been meaning to put a tank up to collect rain water off the roof for flushing the toilet, I even have an idea of how to do it, I just need to get on with it

Some families in Australia (where water is limited and relatively expensive) choose to flush solid matter straight away and leave liquids for a while. I guess people tend to baulk about that in this country, but it's perhaps something to consider?!?
