Five things I probably never knew about you
If you read blogs, you'll know that there one of those memes going around, where someone writes five fascinating and little known facts about themself and then tags five others to do the same.
I no longer have my own blog, so I thought I was immune, but Malcolm has tagged me.
The thing is though...
1. This is a community blog.
2. I'm an awkward begger.
So here's how I'd like to do it. I'll write my five things as the first comment on this post. and then I tag everyone else in any way connected with Dream to add their five things as a further comment. OK?
It does mean that we've "broken the chain" and are therefore probably cursed with the flatulance of a thousand camels, but there's nothing like shared adversity for a bit of group bonding.
Don't forget to include your name and which bit of Dream you connect with.

I'm Richard White and I connect in some ways with all of the dream groups. Here are five things about me you probably don't know.
1. When I was 12 I broke my arm in a game of monopoly.
2. I've learnt five forgeign languages (French, German, Afrikaans, Sotho, Portuguese) and forgotten all of them. I now only speak English (just about).
3. As a child I was in a tv advert for Soda Stream. I was shocked to see when it aired that I was supposed to represent a thicko. I believe the term they used was "blockhead!" sniff, sniff.
4. My first pop concert was seeing The Osmonds at Sun City (the shame)
5. When I was an eighteen year old missionary I had my pyjamas stolen in the red light district of Amsterdam.
9:45 AM
I'm Pam (Dream Haydock) and I haven't a clue how anyone is going to follow THAT Richard White !!!
1. I've always enjoyed entering competitions - particularly those slogan ones. My slogans have bagged a fair few prizes e.g. £1,000 worth of travel vouchers, TV, Satellite system, double glazing, mountain bikes, weekends away, meals out, fridge, home cinema system, theatre tickets.... so DON'T now say you just don't know anyone who wins these things...
2. I once covered my doctor's desk in dry cocoa pops by accident and so wish I'd quipped "av yer gor any milk n sugar?"
3. I once had a rough collie (like Lassie) who would smile when you asked her to but, despite being a quiet, dainty, delicate soul, would go bananas and bounce off the walls if you ever said "Sezchuan" and I have no idea why.
4. I can speak a little French, and know a handful of words of Bengali, Hindi, Malayalam, Spanish, Arabic and Zulu. Unlike Richard I can't actually FORGET them and remember flaming useful things instead!
5. My first two 45's were "Knock Three Times" by Dawn and "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" by Middle of the Road. How BAD is that? I have excellent musical taste now I'll have you know!
10:14 AM
I'm Malcolm and am connected with Dream in Liverpool and the wider network. I've put these on my own blog (and, yes it was me who tagged Richard) but I thought I'd better put them here too!...
1. I used to work in a casino totalling up the biggest bets of the night before and making sure that the gaming staff (not to mention the punters) haven't embezzled any money.
2. I claim to have a good and pretty eclectic taste in music but am also a (not so) secret fan of Kylie and have got tickets to see her in Manchester in January! I'm also going to see The Killers but am much more excited about the Kylie gig (now that's an admission!)
3. In the same vain... although I am publicly and vocally a supporter of Leicester City (my home town team) I used to support Liverpool as a glory-hunting school boy. Now I find myself living in Liverpool - oh the divine sense of humour!
4. I was deeply attracted to Jo (now my wife) for some time before we started dating, even though I was going out with someone else at the time (I was never a naughty boy though - I believe in being faithful!!)
5. At school I had a birthday party (with streamers, presents and other trimmings) during a class detention. The teacher was a bit put out at first but then must have thought, "if you can't beat them..."
10:25 AM
Jess(ica) Coyle - long time attendee of Liverpool Dream.
1. Although I claim to be a scouser - I was actually born in Croydon, Surrey and lived there until I was 3 before moving to Liverpool.
2. I won a beautiful baby competition inn Croydon when I was 2 years old.
3. I was a dancer from the age of 3 right up until my GCSEs when I chose the academic route in life (sometimes I wish I would have pursued the dancing!!!).
4. I've been knocked out twice and seen stars once - so that's where all my brain cells have gone to!!!
5. Although a life long Evertonian - evidence has been found of me (a photo) dressed in a Liverpool kit when I was 2. I'd say that was child cruelty!!!
1:03 PM
I'm another of Malcolm's "tagees" - if you don't know me I've been around the DREAM scene for a few years, and I know Richard White from college. My five confessions:
1. My first ever record was "A Wonderful Time Up There" by Alvin stardust. I hid it under the couch because we weren't allowed records in those days.
2. In high school I was told to get a signed letter of apology to another boy who I'd hit in the playground. I pretended that the whole class had been given lines - so I wrote half a page of lines in pencil, got it signed, then rubbed out the lines and wrote my letter of apology on the signed piece of paper.
3. I have over 30 kinds of tea in my collection - favourites are Russian Caravan, Earl Grey, Red Bush, Orange Pekoe, Rose Pouchong.
4. When I was a kid I nicked some money out dad's wardrobe only to discover later it was the church collection from the previous Sunday. (I felt prompted to put it right many years later through J John's "Just 10" talk on stealing!)
5. I've spent about £600 on computer art software in the last year. Tools of the trade!

I'm Ruth from Blackrod near Bolton; I go to Day Dream in Liverpool, Dream in Haydock and am starting a twighlight Dream in Bolton in January
I feel like my life is so boring comapred to everyone else but here goes......
1. I once spent a whole year learning Welsh at night school.
Nadolig Llawen i blywythyn newydd dda!!!
2. I have lived in many places in my short life and they all begin with B (except for Leicester)
Burnley, Bolton, Bristol, Birmingham and now Blackrod.
hmm where next? Bahamas? Blackpool? Bongo Bongo land?
3. My tv appearances have been varied (although not as exciting as Richard).
I was on songs of praise twice (yes one of the sad people who looks at the camera when it is pointing at you|), Children in Need (giving in a cheque from at the Metro centre in Newcastle), playing the violin with my orchestra on German tv, in the crowd when Spring Harvest was shown on telly one Easter, and finally my school was on Juliet Bravo (police tv series in the 80s which was filmed in Burnley) so I was an extra, walking down the corridor.
4. I don't have a TV
5. I support the mighty Bolton and have kept the tickets of all the matches I have been to which is over 200.
10:40 PM
Phil Pawley - connected with Dream Haydock.
1. When I was 5 years old I stole a dog biscuit from the garage and ate it just to see what it tasted like. Though I liked all kinds of food then (and still do now), no lasting bond was formed - much to the relief of our family dog.
2. My sole memory of Sunday School was being dressed up as a bunny rabbit and made to bounce like an idiot across the stage in the church hall to the tune of Run Rabbit Run Rabbit Run Run Run, whilst my elder brother got to dress up as Farmer Brown and chase me with a shotgun.
3. I first heard my father use the 'F' word when I was about 10. We were in his Ford Zephyr (can't remember those huh - you must be too young!!) and he was talking to a friend through the passenger window. I nearly fell out of the car in shock and horror - and promptly started copying my Dad - when he was out of earshot of course.
4. I first took up the habit of smoking (ciggies) by collecting butts (ciggy butts!!) from the ashtrays in my parents' house after a party and recovering the leftover tobacco in them. I then re-rolled it into ciggy rice paper and smoked it until I was green and nauseous . It broke all the govt health warnings and measured in at about 90% tar and nicotine. But at least it was free and in abundant supply - an important factor for a 13 year old.
5. Despite my involvement with rugby league in St Helens, and my being born and brought up in New Zealand, I never played Rugby of any form. In fact I played hockey whilst in the NZ Army and have chipped knuckles and shins to prove it.
12:14 AM
I'm Alison - connected to Dream at Haydock
1 - when I was learning to play the piano, I was a great great (not sure how many)grand pupil of Beethoven
2 - I have, somewhere, a picture of me wearing the Saints Club mascot outfit
3 - I can say 'I love you' in french, german, russian, latin, spanish and italian (haven't had chance to use them all yet tho..)
4 - as a 6th former I entered the inter-house cross country event. I got the bus for half of the course. I still managed to come in last - in fact they'd taken the finishing line down..
5 - my most treasured single is the Goodies' version of 'Wild Thing'. I challenge you to come and listen to it and remain unmoved!
2:12 PM
I'm Frances, and Dream at Haydock is my monthly mini-retreat from the stresses of pioneer ministry in Bootle.
1. When I was a teenager I accidentally (honest) shoplifted two reels of sewing thread from Debenhams in Manchester. I was so mortified when I found them in my pocket on arriving home that I went back to Debenhams and sneaked them back onto the rack.
2. My Mum is German - I wouldn't be here if my Grandad hadn't disliked Hitler's politics enough to leave Germany for Switzerland. They finally got permission from the UK Home Office to come to England in March 1939 and arrived here a few days later. My Grandad was interned on the Isle of Man with thousands of other immigrant Germans.
My Dad was on a boat coming back from Hong Kong in 1940 and was bombed, and rescued from a liferaft, and brought to the Albert Dock on a Corvette (that's a ship, not a car!)
3. I am a jigsaw nut. The biggest one I've completed was a 5000 piece version of the Mapa Mundi, which didn't quite fit on the dining table so the edges had to propped up on bits of card. It took me 18 months, on and off, to complete.
4. When I was about 18 months old I threw half a brick (quite strong for such a young age!) at my sister, while we played in the sandpit. She seems to have survived, and even likes me still.
5. As teenagers we were Bay City Roller fans and used to wrap strips of tartan round our wrists and dance in front of the telly when they were on Top of the Pops. My favourite "Roller" was Woody cos he had cute dimples when he smiled!
4:59 PM
I'm Tam and connect to Dream, Haydock. Would love to go every time but am an early years teacher so don't have a life.... My five things you probably don't know are;
1. I grew up trilingual in Bogota, Colombia - Dutch and Spanish were my best languages and English was a poor third, only to be spoken at school!
2. Very embarrassing this one (ahem) - my first ever single was "Long Haired Lover" by Little Jimmy Osmond.....
3. I have headlined with Sandi Toksvig! We went to the same school and were in the Drama group together. Being an all girls school we both ended up playing blokes a lot......
4. My first Saturday job was filling cars in a petrol station which I did for 2-3 years. Biggest and most expensive disaster was putting antifreeze in the automatic transmission fluid hole of an automatic car (very big whoops)
5. Before I had children my favourite thing in the whole world was windsurfing. I was obsessed and had a couple of boards and different sized sails for different wind conditions. Ah Happy Days :-)
7:41 PM
I'm Julie (Dream Haydock and Dream in NHS)
Five things you probably never knew about me:
1. I was baptised as a baby in a bucket - apparently there had been a fire in the church and so they had to improvise!
2. In sixth form at my strict (all girls) school my friends and I did a "striptease" at the end of term theatrical production. We'd kept the sketch secret and the teachers were worried when the familiar opening bars of the stripper started up - but it was all very tame and innocent.
3. As a teenager I loved Rod Stewart. His was the first concert I ever went to in Manchester.
4. I'm a huge Everton fan. My dad used to be a season ticket holder and used to take me to all the away games when I was a little girl but now I'm just an armchair fan.
5. The first record I bought myself was "I'm not in love" by 10cc.
4:02 PM
Hi I'm Kate & I 'Dream' at Haydock.
My 5 things...
1. I've been on TV in Japan (playing drums - badly); & on the radio in Indonesia (recording jingles for 'Kharisma FM' - don't ask)
2. On my travels I've eaten snake (cobra), maggots, jellyfish, silkworms, beetles & grasshoppers.
3. Despite the above, I'm scared silly of snakes - and I mean really scared. As in have-a-great-big-hissy-fit-if-I-so-much-as-see-a-picture-of-one scared.
4.I love football & have been an avid & vocal supporter of Southport Football Club (don't anyone say 'who?') since I was 10. So definitely not a glory seeker!
5. My favourite sandwich is peanut butter, marmite, chocolate spread & banana - yes, all together!
6:59 PM
Hello everyone,my name is Lorraine and i dream at Heydock.
my five things are:
1. went camping to Tai'ze twice and met some fantastic people, the food wasn't fantastic but we did'nt starve. (after a week Macdonalds was looking good.)
2.I Joined the church choir when I was 11yrs old not because I felt i had a gift, but because you were paid for it and got the occasional day off school for a wedding booked in the week.
3. At 15yrs old went camping with the youth group to the curates wife's parents farm. we put all our spends together and bought beer, hid it in a wall the curate had his suspicions we had some, but never caught us.
4. I admit to loving Donny Osmond and going to a concert to see him at the summer pops.
5. I named my daughter samantha because, I was in shock i'd had a girl, was convinced I was Having a boy, and i'd watched bewitched the night before.
7:20 PM
i once broke a mirror on the wall at school .... this may have been forgiveable, except i used the head of a boy who was annoying me to do it.
amazingly enough, one of my school reports said i was a very bad tempered little girl. But now butter wouldn't melt in my mouth.
ive only been on TV once - but then again, it was for winning a beach beauty competition.
This led to a modelling contract - in the hotpants era, no less.
In spite of the above, i am quite shy.
